Between the river and the sea…
Israel has become a nation of yellow ribbons
Woven around our car door handles
Wrapped around the trees that line our roads
Pinned to our shirts and lapels

A constant reminder as we move through our days
And chase elusive sleep through our nights
Trying to pretend our lives are normal
That there is no “before” and “after”

That our children, our parents
Our friends, our loved ones
Our colleagues, our neighbors
Have not been wounded, assaulted, kidnapped or murdered

That our lives and our country
Have not been forever changed
That the earth is not soaked and stained with our own blood
Or blackened with the ashen remains of our homes and our people

We are a nation of anguished souls
Drowning in grief
And mourning our losses
As we fight a battle we did not start and do not want

Today is the 186th day of the war
And in our nation of yellow ribbons
Between the river and the sea
It is still October 7th
