She’s chasing shadows in her mind
Not knowing what she’ll find
She’s running from her fears
No one hears. No one hears.
Beaten down and bruised
She feels like she’s been used
She knows she’s lost her way
Can’t find the words to say…
What she thinks and feels
Her heart and soul he steals
Leaving just a shell
Of the self she knew so well
She knows the truth lies somewhere in between
Who she is and what he thinks he’s seen
A sense of peace is what she someday hopes to find
But for now she’s chasing shadows in her mind
This is just an amazing piece and I can hear it already in my head as a song. Brava!
Thanks, Jen! I’d love to hear the music you came up with!
I just discovered your blog. Love the poem – it does almost sound like a melody. My favorite line is:
She knows the truth lies somewhere in between
Who she is and what he thinks he’s seen
Ah, so true. The truth is always somewhere in between.
Anyway, I look forward to reading up in the next few days!
Shira: Welcome to the blog! I’m so glad you like the poem. Truth is often subjective I think, and what we consider to be truth may be perceived by others as simply being our own narrative. “He said-she said…”
@Shira, that’s the line that gets me the most as well!
This is by far the best I’ve read. I wish someone would put it to music!
nrg: We talked about that line, but I didn’t realize it was the one that struck you the most. I’m kind of partial to “Her heart and soul he steals”. To me, it sounds almost haunting. And of course, thank you for saying it’s the best one you’ve read. Very high praise, given that you read everything I write, my dear!
You’re not the first person to have suggested it, and I’m humbled by the thought that people would think such a thing about something I’ve written.
