If you ever wonder…

Why Israelis aren’t “moving past” the atrocities of October 7th…

Why it is still at the forefront of our minds…

Why we are just as broken-hearted today as we were then…

Why we are still so full of rage…

Why I am perpetually feeling all of these emotions at the same time, to the extreme…

It’s because even as we try to imagine the worst that our hostages have experienced while being held by Hamas terrorists, the truth is far worse. That when you read about what they actually went through, you realize that your imagination is incapable of reaching the depths of cruelty and depravity that our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and others in our circles experienced at the hands of these utterly depraved monsters. And it’s continuing with those still being held – approximately 100 people in each of these categories – children, young people, middle-aged people, elderly…

I can feel the bile pushing its way into my throat as I read these horrific details of torture, and as usual, I feel like I’m screaming into a void. I know that my Israeli friends, my Jewish friends abroad, and the incredible allies in my life will be just as horrified as I am. So many others will simply scroll by. Maybe you’re tired of my rants (spoiler alert – I don’t care). Maybe you think I’m exaggerating (I don’t care about that either).

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I actually do believe that what’s happening to civilians in Gaza is a terrible tragedy and I would like to see it stop. But then I read articles like this one, and it reminds me who we’re fighting against – though to be honest, I don’t need reminding. I think some of you do, though.

And if you do and you’re choosing to believe everything that Hamas says and nothing that Israelis are saying, you might want to ask yourself why you believe the terrorists over their victims.
