Did you know that……
Jews are scared right now, more scared than they’ve ever been? That they’re afraid to display outward signs of their Jewishness?
…Jewish college and university students don’t feel safe or welcome on their campuses, and many of them are being shunned, harassed, or threatened? That some have even been assaulted?
Did you know that in many cases, these institutions are either doing nothing or they’re issuing weak messaging about the need to ensure that “all” students feel safe and condemning “all” forms of hatred, essentially doing nothing to help Jewish students feel safer?
That their response to an increase in Jew hatred is mention both antisemitism and Islamophobia, as though they are the same issue and of equally pressing urgency right now? Spoiler alert – they’re not…
Did you know that even though I live in what feels like the most talked-about war zone in the world and there are rockets being fired at us from Gaza, Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen, I still feel safer here than your Jewish friends feel in the US right now because of the staggering increase in antisemitism?
Jew hatred in the US (and around the world) is at unprecedented levels, and just like the response to “Black lives matter” isn’t “All lives matter”, the response to a dramatic increase in Jew hatred/antisemitism shouldn’t be “But what about Islamophobia” or condemning “all forms of hatred”. It should be “no matter what’s happening in the world, antisemitism and Jew hatred cannot be tolerated.”
