I’ve been staring at my computer screen for some time now, trying to come up with a zippy little introduction for my first article in the Haaretz lifestyle magazine ESSENCE, which hit the newsstands on Friday. I don’t know if it’s the lack of caffeine in my system, the lack of caffeine in my system, or the lack of caffeine in my system, but nothing exciting comes to mind.
In any event, the article is about the more than 30 walking tours run by the Association for Tourism Tel Aviv-Jaffa, including the four free tours in English (the rest are in Hebrew). The article isn’t on the Haaretz website, so I’ve taken the liberty of uploading to my blog (having used a total of three different computers for scanning, PDFing and uploading, thank you very much). I loved writing the article, probably because the tours all sound so fascinating!
The article can be found here, and you need Adobe Reader (or any other PDF reader) in order to view it properly. The first page is below, just to tempt you into clicking the link to the PDF. And no, I’m not responsible for all the groovy photos…
I’ve also added a permanent link to the article on the News/Clips page.
It’s not the amount of caffeine in your system you ought to be gauging, but the amount of blood in your coffee. I read the artivcle and I loved it.
It’s a great article, it totally made me want to run out and join a tour – you did a terrific job!
Tanja: I suspect you’re right about the coffee… So glad you liked the piece! I’m really happy with the way it turned out!
Robin: Thanks, m’dear! We could do the espresso tour. I’ll bring brownies… 馃槈
During Lent we have our typical brownies called “kware偶imal” (from ‘forty’).
They are long biscuits made from flour, ground almonds, cinammon, sugar, honey, cocoa, and orangeflower water and citrus juice and zest… then when they are just out of the oven you drizzle them with more honey and sprinkle that with brushed almonds or hazelnuts or peanuts or pistachios.

Nice article! And I can recommend the English tours – I’ve done them a number of times with overseas visitors, and also with work colleagues
That’s cool stuff. Although to tell you the truth, Tel Aviv could do with a visit by Godzilla, to do some creative improvements of general city planning. I would even volunteer to be his guide.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! But we must do something quickly about that lack of caffeine in your system!
Shall I send you some Pocket Coffee, or do you have it already there?
Tel Aviv and everyone else.
Jaffa been there?
Congrats-very exciting. I really want to go on these tours now!
There’s an idea for a meet-up if ever there was one!
Hey did you know that coffee is in the Bible? It is the oil of joy for the spirit of morning.
Mazal Tov!
