Can you believe it? It’s been fourteen months since this blog was created, and needless to say, it’s been quite an exciting ride. It all began with this post, as He (who recently “came out of the closet” himself) and I jumped into the Israeli blogosphere, hoping to take the world by storm (I’m still waiting for that one). Sometimes witty, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes provocative, and usually pretty enjoyable. I say usually, as because with any ongoing, long-term project, there are bound to be bumps and bruises along the way. I’ll even let you all in on a little secret. At one point, quite early on, I almost quit, so affected was I by some behind-the-scenes (and some not so behind-the-scenes) action around these parts. Fortunately for me, I chose to continue writing, despite the nagging fear that something would trigger a repeat of the events, that I would once again feel threatened for expressing my opinions. So far, it hasn’t happened, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m always looking over my virtual shoulder (and it makes me crazy that I feel this way, but what can I say – once burned, twice shy, right?).
In any event, now that He has sadly bid us farewell (the gang over here at Something Something will miss you terribly, mwah mwah), there may be some changes around here, as I make this place truly all mine, a place where we can all continue to share ideas and opinions, and a place where I can take credit for my writing. To that end, I have decided to forgo my anonymity, at least partially. After all, who in the world will take me seriously if I continue to use my adopted, anonymous moniker of She? Not to say, of course, that they will take me seriously then, either. I’m just trying to improve my chances.
So, without further adieu, ahem, ahem, from here on out, please feel free to call me Liza. Note that that’s Liza with a “z” not Lisa with an “s”, cuz Lisa with an “s” goes “ssss” not “zzzz”. “Lie” instead of “Lee”, “z” instead of “s”, simple as can be, see Liza!
Yay Liza! Now I can finally stop referring to you as She. 😉
Trust me, the world outside the closet is a fun place.
“Liza With A Z”- wasn’t that the name of a Liza Minelli show back in the 70’s? That’s such a pretty name!
Were you seriously threatened for expression your opinion? Unbelievable! I mean, believable, of course, but…unbelievable!
Liza, like the Diva! Congrats on outing yourself!
Nice to “meet” you Liza 🙂
You’re brave. I kind of liked “she”.
Now I just need to know who “spanky” is.
Shamefully, my associations were more Goddard than Minelli.
YAY!!! Thank G-D! Can I tell you that I have quite literally sat bolt upright from a sound sleep, covered in cold sweat, thinking ohmyg-d in my comment today did I forget to use SHE and put LIZA down instead?! then had to run to the computer and check and melt with relief that once again I had been spared from my all-too-common cluelessness and lack of attention to critical ooooppsies.
Lisa: I hope you’re right! After posting, I had stirrings of excitement laced with nausea, wondering if I’d done the right thing. Nausea is rarely fun…
rr: TV show? That’s a new one on me. I know for sure that it was a Liza Minelli song (I know all the “Liza” songs, needless to say). I’ll have to check that one and get back to you.
Suffice it to say that things got more than a little hairy around here and the Israeli blogosphere in general during the disengagement last summer, and it was very unpleasant, to say the least.
beth: Thanks! Not quite like the diva though. I can’t sing for shit. On the plus side, I also don’t have substance abuse issues or a penchant for bizarre men…
ziad: The pleasure is all mine, my friend!
lisoosh: It was a decision I’ve been thinking about for some time now, but I had to wait until I felt better about it. After all, you can always tell, but you can never “untell”. I also saw it as a way of beating some of my inner blogging demons, as it partially alleviates one of the threats. I think I told you about it, but I’m not sure…
You can still call me She if you like!
Spanky, Spanky, Spanky…
tafka pp: Ummm… Who?
yael k: Wow! I never realized I had that effect on you! 🙂 Glad I could take care of at least one of the things that causes you to bolt up from sleep. I’ve always been impressed by our abilities to keep the blogger identities separate from the real ones, but I’ve also seen people slip, so it’s not really a foolproof system.
BTW, you are doing a fabulous job these days, leading the battle on the PR front. Keep up the good work!
“ooooppsies”, eh? Bet your spell checker had a field day with that one. All those “o”s are hurting my eyes (my “i”s?)…
I think she’s mostly an 70’s- 80’s UK cultural reference, with some Aussie thrown in for good measure.
“He” might know who she is…
Anyway, never mind- congrats on the self-outing. Bekarov Etsli.
great! can we get a face soon? 🙂
Hello Liza, nice to meet you. I hope the world outside treats you well.
Hey there Lizzie, oh, wait, Lisa, oh, no, there I go again… shoot, I mean…. LIZA!!! You don’t know how many times I had to delete Liza and put in She on the preview of comments! 🙂 Glad you are with us as your true and charming self…
Nicole (or nrg!)
Mazel tov Liza! It’s lovely to be able to put a name to your blogface.
hang on, does that mean i can come round and comment as me? swearing’n all?
tafka pp: Aha. I will certainly ask “He”, given that he hasn’t volunteered the information himself.
Are you planning an “outing” as well? It feels both good and strange to be “myself” in public like this, but I’m glad I did it (so far).
rami: Don’t push your luck, my dear! Besides, not everyone is as photogenic as you are. 🙂
udge: So do I!
nrg: Well, aren’t you amusing!
How many times? ;-p
cathy: Thanks. Now if only I had a blog face…
as: Well howdy, stranger. You can do what you like, being a former member of the household and all. 🙂
i have no feckin’ clue what ‘the artist’ is on about, unless she’s referring to the girl who lived 2 doors down from me back in Priory Road. have a feeling she’s not though…
Yay Liza, but you’re not completely out of the closet yet – there’s an “R” next to your name in the About Me section – what’s your middle name?
Rose, Regina (hope not), Ruth, Roberta, Rachel, Rina, Rita? Anyone else with a guess?
