I’m not ashamed to say that I love the Eurovision Song Contest, so when my editor at Haaretz asked if I wanted to try to set up an interview with Itzik Fishely, the president of OGAE Israel (the Israeli chapter of the official Eurovision fan club network), and write an article about the Israeli connection to the contest, I waited four minutes before responding, so as not to appear overly, pathetically, eager. My response included the phrase “oh my god, yes!” so whether or not I succeeded is open to debate…

The interview went very well, and the resulting article hit the Israeli newsstands this week, coinciding with this year’s Eurovision contest, currently underway in Tel Aviv thanks to Netta Barzilai‘s big win at last year’s Eurovision contest in Portugal.

The article, which appears in print in Haaretz’s English-language edition’s “Essence” magazine, can be read by clicking the image below.

Do you love (or hate) Eurovision? Are you attending any of the shows in Tel Aviv this year? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments!
